FOBZ "Snow Leopard" Charity Ball 2008
By Martin Goymour, FOBZ Chairman
How can fund raising be so much fun?!
Members, friends and guests - some 120 of them, gathered together for an absolutely splendid evening at the Weston Park Golf Clubhouse on the evening of Saturday 11th October for the FOBZ ‘Snow Leopard’ Ball.
A sumptuous meal was followed by the opportunity to dance the rest of the evening away, courtesy of Tony Waterfield’s disco, or to be flash with the cash (funny money only) at the casino tables.
The ‘Carriages at 1.00am’ finally managed to encourage guests that the party was over - otherwise the exuberance of energy and enjoyment would no doubt have been sustained for much longer - always the sign of a good and enjoyable party.
We were fortunate to have had numerous prizes donated for the raffle, which itself raised £575, and this was followed by an auction of three superb original paintings donated by artists from the Natural World Art Group, affiliated to FOBZ, the artists of which staged and managed the Summer art exhibition at the Zoo.
Two of the paintings were sold, raising a further £560, whilst the third, "Lammergeyer over Ladkah - Snow Leopard Country" by David Perkins was held in reserve as a star prize for a proposed raffle for 2009.
These events do not happen, and are not successful without huge amounts of organisation, dedication and sheer effort to make all aspects work seemingly without effort. Many people were involved, and the staff at Weston Park Golf Club were particularly helpful in all aspects, and provided not only excellent food but service as well.
Several FOBZ members and supporters lent their assistance and particularly to be given thanks in appreciation of their efforts are Bridget Hallett, Katherine Brodie and Caroline Goymour. Well done all!
Whilst we await final invoices and costs, I can reveal that well over £2,500 profit was raised and will be going to the Snow Leopard Trust.
