The Friends of Banham Zoo Presents:
Conservation Support Evening
Saturday 3rd September 2011
On Saturday 3rd September we will be joined by guest speakers from two of the conservation projects that the Friends of Banham Zoo have supported for a number of years.
Campbell Murn, Head of Conservation and Research at the Hawk Conservancy in Hampshire, will speak about the vital work being carried out by the Gyps Vulture Project in Pakistan to halt the massive decline of three vulture species, one of the most significant disasters to have befallen the natural world.
Kelly Jacobs, Education, Outreach and Training Officer from the World Land Trust will speak about a joint project with the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums to purchase and protect a critically important area of Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest. Only fragments of this forest remain, but it is regarded as a biodiversity hotspot because of the large numbers of species found in this habitat. Interestingly this major international conservation organisation is based quite locally in Halesworth, Suffolk.
Gary Batters, Head of Animal Management at Banham Zoo, will give you a sneak preview of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria South East Asia Campaign which is being launched in late September and focuses on a number of critically endangered species but particularly on the saola. If you don't know what that is you will definitely need to come along!
The evening will finish with a chance to see a few of the Animal Training & Presentation animals followed by a light buffet in the Trading Post.
The support evening begins at 6:30pm for 7:00pm start at the "Amazing Animals!" Theatre
Tickets: £12.50
£10 for season ticket holders and FOBZ members
